Each year, on the final Saturday of April, independent bookstores nationwide join in the celebration of Indie Bookstore Day. While independent bookstores have a rich history in America, they have faced significant challenges with the emergence of retail chains and online giants. This is what sets indie bookstores apart- they're independent ownership, distinguishing them from stores owned by retail chains or larger corporations.
